Due to the success of her whole day workshops, Viv Rainsbury has decided to do a few similar Sunday sessions covering different themes. The next one is on Sunday 25th October.

Life Drawing Workshop   with Lorraine Auton 

CANCELLED - Not quite enough interest to make it viable this time.

For those of you who love to draw the human form from life, we are hiring both a male and female model who will share the 2 sessions before and after lunch. A mixture of long and short poses - some clothed and some nude - will be arranged for you to draw. Although this is not a fully tutored activity, help and guidance will be on hand. Suitable for all abilities.

Maximum of 7 places. 

Only easels and drinks are included so please bring your own art materials and a packed lunch.

Summer Meadow Acrylic Workshop   with Lorraine Auton 

Paint an intricate, panoramic meadow scene in acrylic on a metre long canvas. This workshop runs over two days, where DAY 1 covers most of the instruction, painting the background and some of the flowers. DAY 2 is for additional help and completing the task (where needed). 

Use large brushes and other techniques to create a backdrop followed by finer, detailed work to illustrate poppies, other meadow flowers and grasses. Stages and techniques demonstrated and guidance given throughout. Better suited to those with some painting experience rather than absolute beginners.

Maximum of 7 places. 

Cost covers both days and all art materials, a canvas, refreshments on both days and lunch on DAY 1. Please bring your own packed lunch on DAY 2.

Nature - Pen and Wash Workshop   with Lorraine Auton 

Using non-soluble ink and watercolour, this afternoon workshop will guide the group to make a series of studies from nature into attractive artworks. Stages demonstrated and individual help given so this workshop will suit all abilities.

Maximum of 8 places. 

All materials and snacks/refreshments are included.

High Society Pastel Workshop   with Vivienne Rainsbury

The workshop will begin with trying out some pastel techniques using Pan pastels, artist's soft pastels and pastel pencils before moving on to create a pastel painting of a giraffe.

Some pastels will be available but if you have your own then please bring them. Pastelmat paper will be provided.

Tea, coffee, cakes and biscuits are available all day but please bring your own packed lunch.

Impasto Bluebells Workshop   with Lorraine Auton 

This whole day workshop using acrylics on a medium canvas will guide the group to produce a woodland background scene in the morning session. 

A light buffet lunch and refreshments will follow this. 

The afternoon session will involve the participants in creating swathes of bluebells using an impasto technique. 

All materials, a suitably sized canvas and a light lunch are included.

PLEIN AIR PAINTING at Thurne Staithe (weather permitting) with Lorraine Auton

Set up on the grassy path to the right of the staithe with a good view of the windmill and moored boats. Please bring your own equipment (some easels provided if requested and collected in advance). This is a social event with no tutoring or charge but you might wish to bring your own refreshments or purchase something to suit your taste from the nearby hostelry! 

Comfy chairs, warm clothing and insect repellent strongly advisable.

Book your place and enjoy a relaxing step-by-step Sunday afternoon workshop accompanied by tea and cake.


Watch the demo and then experiment with sgraffito technique to scratch away the top layer of paint revealing copper tones beneath. Use free brushstrokes, warm colours and metallic paint to produce a shimmering Norfolk reed landscape. 


Most suitable for those wishing to improve their painting skills.
